While NWP's exist in late AD&D 1E, they are presumed to be optional add-ons, and not listed in adventures. I wish they'd have included more of 1e in 2e though. But i like the way 2nd does a lot of things. I still have the 1e books, i think 1e DMG is the best for what it tries to do.
I still like 2e the best, with proficiencies, and brown, green and blue books, plus Birthright by Rich Baker. In AD&D 1E, the one minute round was broken down into 10 segments of 6 seconds each. The important thing to remember through all this is that the round structure changed from 1st to 2nd Edition.
There are also a few paragraphs and a chart in the Dungeon Master's Guide.
